Discussion will include FBI operations in context at the federal level, case examples, preventative considerations, and what should happen when a cyber incident occurs.

Steven McElwee, Corporate Information Security Officer for PJM will presentImplementing a Non-Signature Based Intrusion Detection for Industrial Control Systems.Industrial Control Systems (ICS) protocols, like ICCP and DNP3 can be challenging to monitor for zero-day vulnerabilities, targeted attacks, system misuse, and unintentional mistakes. Conventional signature-based intrusion detection systems have limited ability to detect suspicious activity in these protocols. This presentation is a case study in how PJM, as part of a Department of Energy grant, worked with Boeing and Security Matters to develop and implement a deep protocol behavior inspection system for monitoring ICS communications protocols.
